In my opinion, selecting the right colors for a pizza shop is crucial; they should make the food look more appetizing and foster a pleasant dining environment for customers.

A quick delivery brandPepperoni Pop: bright red, yellow to grab hungry eyes fast.
An artisan wood-fired shopSmoky browns and ember orange, the wood-fired oven feels hand made.
A family venue for childrenCheesy Gold: warm cheesy yellows play nice.
A gourmet or healthy menuBasil & Burrata: fresh greens feel light and premium.
A late-night slice shopNew York Slice: black and red look edgy and hip.

This distinct contrast of Reds and Rustic Earth tones is truly special.

Most pizza parlors go with the two styles above. They differ in the following ways.

Bold Reds

It’s a remembrance of Pepperoni Pop, New York Slice and Retro Pizzeria.

Best for:

  • Delivery and takeaway brands
  • Eating establishments that serve quick, quick sandwiches.
  • Boxes that require to stand out for pizza.
  • Brands who desire to appeal to your energy and hunger

Rustic Earth Tones

Consider Wood-Fired Oven, Tuscan Sun and Olive Grove.

Best for:

  • Sit-down family pizzerias
  • It was an amazing pizza, both wood-fired and artisan.
  • Warm lighting and brick wall shops
  • Brands that desire a warm, cozy feeling.

The colors I recommend for most pizza shops are one strong red and a warm neutral. Red triggers hunger and the neutral neutralizes its loudness.

How to Use These Palettes

Website

  1. Make the background color as light as possible.
  2. Text and menus should be in the darkest color.
  3. Choose a strong accent color for buttons such as “Order now.”

Signage & Packaging

  1. Use a colour converter to convert HEX codes to CMYK before you print.
  2. Always use one color for the Pizza Boxes, Menu Cards and Shop Sign.
  3. Print a test box first as red will appear darker on cardboard.

Social Media

  1. Use one color background for deals and new-flavor posts.
  2. Use the same 2-3 colors for the price and text stickers.
  3. Check your grid. It should be as if it was one pizza place, not ten.

CSS Snippet

css

:root {
  --pizza-dark: #3B2A20; /* text */
  --pizza-red: #C1272D; /* buttons */
  --pizza-green: #2E8B57; /* accents */
  --pizza-dough: #F4E1C1; /* sections */
}

Add this to your stylesheet and use var(--pizza-red) anywhere you’d like to use that color.

Pro Tip

Try out your colors with actual pizza. Before you make a decision, take a picture of the pizza on your pizza board or pizza box design.

If the food doesn’t appear vibrant in the colors then go for a warmer or lighter shade. The pizza should resemble the hero.

For a pizza shop, the perfect balance of colours, furniture and interior design is essential for the shop’s brand, and that was my experience with the Broadway Pizza – Kohinoor.

Red, cream and warm brown are colors that could add a great touch of elegance and style to the shop and a little green for freshness.

When picking colors for pizza boxes, menus, and walls, it is important to consider them in conjunction with real photographs of the pizza; this way, the pizza is more eye-catching and the color combination will add to the overall aesthetic of the brand.

FAQ

What colors make a great pizza shop?

Colors that are best are red, yellow, warm browns, or basil green. They taste like tomato, cheese and fresh herbs.

What is the optimal number of colors for a pizza shop?

I suggest 3-4 colors: one dark, one light and one or two accents. This can get very cluttered.

Do these pizza shop color palettes have any copyright restrictions?

Yes. Print them out for your logo, website, pizza boxes or menus. No credit needed.

So many pizza stores use red, why?

Red attracts attention and may cause hunger. It’s also a similar flavor to tomato sauce, making it easy to slide on pizza.
